Today is World Osteoporosis Day.
It’s often known as the “silent disease” due to not many people knowing about it. The Royal Osteoporosis Society state that Half of all women and one in five men over 50 will break a bone due to poor bone health. Due to there being so many people living with the disease many of who don’t know they have it it’s estimated that someone will break a bone **every minute in the UK** due to osteoporosis.
Due to my husband having Osteoporosis which is quite rare, we found out about it when he broke his leg aged 47. The damage to his leg was out of proportion with the activity he had been doing at the time. (in a dramatic way for the amount of force being exerted). Due to that bone health was the first specialist topic I wanted to learn about once I had qualified. So I undertook a specialist course as soon as I could and took an additional assessment and now I hold a Level 3 certificate in Designing Pilates Programmes for Bone Health.
With more research I’ve worked out that we ALL should be doing bone health exercises as for most of us by the time it becomes a thing we are interested in, we are on the declining side of the bone density curve!!!!
If you’ve enjoyed reading about bone health and want to find out more about my classes drop me a message. We’re a friendly bunch.
